EPP2 Exemption and Permit Criteria

Environment Agency Permits 

There are different types of Environment Agency Discharge Permits that you will need in order to comply with EPP2

Discharge Exemption

If you are discharging:

  • Less than 5m3 per day to surface water (ditch, stream, etc.)
  • Less than 2m3 per day to ground 

Criteria for the above

  • No trade waste
  • No available connection to a foul sewer within 30 metres
  • EN 12566 Certified product
  • Product must be maintained and/or emptied by a suitably qualified person as per the manufacturers manual
  • Watercourse must have a Dilution ratio of 8:1 – Does not run dry in summer
  • No discharge within 1 km of bathing waters, SSSI etc if you are discharging to surface waters

Exemption (WQX001)

Standard Permit

If you are discharging:

  • 5-20m3 per day to surface water (ditch, stream, etc.)

Criteria for the above:

  • Secondary treated effluent only ( sewage treatment plant NOT a septic tank )
  • No trade waste
  • No available connection to a foul sewer within 30 metres
  • The Product must have an EN 12566 Certificate
  • Product must be maintained by a suitably qualified person as per the manufacturers manual
  • Watercourse must have a Dilution ratio of 8:1 – Does not run dry in summer
  • No discharge within 1 km of bathing waters, SSSI etc

If you don’t meet one or more of the criteria above 

If you are discharging:

  • More than 20m3 per day to surface water (ditch, stream, etc.)
  • More than 2m3 per day to ground
