Sewage Treatment Plants

Domestic Houses, including Rental and Holiday Homes

Ideal conditions for sewage treatment plants due to:

Single House Treatment Systems

  • Constant populations, apart from one or two week holidays.
  • Used by the people who pay for sewage treatment plant maintenance and repairs.
  • Industry standard influent concentrations - the concentrations that sewage treatment plants are tested with for their EN12566-3 Certificate.

WTE Recommends:

Multiple House Treatment Systems

  • Constant population.
  • Industry standard wastewater concentrations.
  • Anonymity of use sometimes results in misuse.

WTE Recommends:

Holiday Home Treatment Systems

  • Fluctuating population.
  • Absence periods.
  • Industry standard influent concentrations.

WTE Recommends:

Rental Home Treatment Systems

  • Fluctuating population.
  • Absence periods.
  • Industry standard influent concentrations.
  • Public use = misuse

WTE Recommends:

Hotels, Pubs, Restaurants

Potentially challenging conditions for sewage treatment plants due to:

  • Fluctuating populations. Potentially less than 50% of maximum use.
  • Absence periods or very low use periods.
  • Higher than industry standard wastewater concentrations that sewage treatment plants are Tested with.
  • Sanitising products are often used which kill the bacteria in the sewage treatment plant that are needed for digestion of the pollutants.
  • Public use = misuse

WTE Recommends:

Campsites, Caravan Parks

Potentially challenging conditions for sewage treatment plants due to:

  • Fluctuating populations. Generally less than 50% often less than 15%, due to seasonal variations & week/weekend variation.
  • Absence periods - often due to bad weather -  when no-one is on site
  • Higher than industry standard wastewater concentrations that sewage treatment plants are tested with.
  • Public use = misuse.

WTE Recommends:

Offices, Schools, Building Sites

Potentially challenging conditions for sewage treatment plants due to:

  • Static and Fluctuating populations.
  • Absence periods or very low use periods due to School Holidays, weekends, Bank Holidays, etc.
  • Higher than industry standard wastewater concentration of pollutants, but often low volumes of actual wastewater.
  • Public use = misuse
